Defining our Terms and Beliefs
DEI at St. Paul's Episcopal Nursery School
Diversity: We define diversity as inclusive of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender identity, family structure, neurodiverse learning styles, ability, physical appearance, religion, belief systems, and other qualities that contribute to a heterogeneous community.
We believe that diversity of ALL kinds enables children and adults to better understand themselves and others and value multiple lived experiences.
Inclusion : We define inclusion as not simply the action or state of including or of being included within a group or structure, but also the intentional act or practice of including and accommodating people who have historically been excluded or might otherwise be excluded or marginalized.
We believe that ALL children have the right to equitable learning opportunities that enable them to achieve their full potential as engaged learners and valued members of society.
Equity: We define equity as making sure everyone has what they need vs. making sure everyone has the same thing. If we are to create equitable situations and work toward an equitable community, we can achieve equality.
We believe that ALL children, regardless of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender identity, family structure, learning style, ability, physical appearance, religion, belief systems, and language are welcome at St. Paul's.
